More about this object

Why it matters

The same 8–11% Lakadong turmeric we sell on its own, blended with three spices that complete it: black pepper for absorption, cinnamon for warmth, and a hint of cardamom for the floral note that pulls the rest together. No sugar, no thickeners, no powdered milk solids — this is a spice blend, not an instant beverage powder.

The process

Each spice is sourced and processed separately under our usual rules — sun-dried, stone-ground, no additives. Blended in small batches by hand-weighing rather than industrial mixing, so the proportions stay even and the volatile oils don't break down.

How to use it

One teaspoon to a cup of warm milk — dairy, oat, or almond. Whisk gently while heating; do not boil, which damages the curcumin. Sweeten if you want with honey or jaggery once off the heat. Also works stirred into porridge, into a yoghurt bowl, or as a dry rub on chicken before roasting.

Why is pepper included?

Piperine, the active compound in black pepper, increases curcumin absorption substantially. Turmeric without pepper is largely wasted — your body absorbs only a fraction. The pepper is the entire reason this blend exists.

Do I need to add sweetener?

No, but turmeric blends taste better with a small amount. Honey or jaggery off the heat. Don't use refined sugar — it dulls the cardamom.

Can I drink it cold?

You can, but curcumin is fat-soluble and warming dairy or oat milk allows it to dissolve more effectively. Cold lattes work better as iced overnight infusions — stir, refrigerate, drink the next morning.

Can I cook with it?

Yes. Dry-rub on chicken before roasting, stirred into rice pilaf, or whisked into a yoghurt marinade. The cardamom doesn't fight savoury dishes.

Origins

Adviah works only with smallholder farmers in the Jaintia and Khasi hills of Meghalaya. Every batch traces to a named village; every spice is processed within thirty kilometres of where it was grown.

Why we chose them

What convinced us was their discipline. They will sell less turmeric rather than dry it artificially, and they will not blend across villages even when supply is tight. That kind of refusal is what makes a single-origin claim mean something.
